August 30 2006: Are playwrights and produce more summating question of women rights? In there plays they have succeeded in creating an atmosphere or a world that has no bearing on the so-called primary issue of real life that the rights of women are determined by men in male dominated society. Instead they have taken up some other matters such as whether society should badly treat women who has given birth to a child who is not being owned by any man.

Their characters do not have bad feelings about the women who either have been ditched or have lost their families and now no one is there own there to own a newly born child. In such plays, the supporting characters choose to assist the deserted choose the deserted women in order to find out some way to rehabilitate them. In some plays, the characters prefer to take to task the black sheep or bad characters who had exploited a women and filled her life with great suffering.

Interestingly, the play in a way create a situation where the role of a women in existing conditions becomes more important and her past role and even bad reputation is consigned to oblivion. In such plays, the woman is provided in opportunity to mend her ways. Its in fact an intrusting situation when past indiscretions do not matter and the on lookers or viewers (whose attention is grabbed) remain anxious to see what the bad women of past do now. And when they choose to adopt an ideally good way, they are anchorage not only by supporting characters but the viewers as well. It is the support and liking of the latter that is bringing these plays a success.

Now, take a look at ongoing telefilms and drama serials that can be criticized for the more romanticisms and unreal sort of expressive feeling of character as a whole’. They are basically of totally different ethos and culture of thinking. This drastic change in the thought of playwright and directors can be viewed in their earlier films that had already created an atmosphere of standing up against the negative custom and culture imposed on one pretext or another. No doubt the Indians filmmakers have been working for this noble cause for a long time and their efforts can be witnessed in the films produced by Bilraj Sahani, for instance. He is someone who has made great contributions to enabling fellow filmmakers to give art movies or parallel cinema their due.

Besides, films such as subh ki taara, mother India, Mughal-e-Azam and similar other movies brought about a symbolic change. In fact, all such films proved to be a metaphor of sacrifice and struggle by women against the system of exploitation in the sub continent. Subsequently, the film maker gave a number of wonder full movies where the question of women’s resistance was mooted more power fully but successfully such as in paar, munddi, la-warris, kya kehna.

No doubt Pakistan the question of freedom of expiration it self has become a hard nut to crack and perhaps this is way people are engaged in waging a fight against some fundamental questions instead of taking up more important social and moral questions in order to get rid of the worst exploitation of women in our society. Nevertheless the play rights have to work allot to make there productions more reason able, creative and visionary in Pakistan where writers are not only facing pressure from state actors, groups, and violators of human rights.
