US ambassador calls on Sindh chief minister

KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah has indicated that a large quantity of wheat will be exported as the province witnessed a bumper crop despite floods and heavy rains last year.

He was talking to US Ambassador to Pakistan Cameron Munter, who called on him at the Chief Minister’s House here on Monday.

Consul General at Karachi William Martin and others accompanied Munter.

The Sindh CM apprised him of the pace of development in Sindh, keeping in view the rehabilitation and restructuring efforts after heavy floods of last year as people had suffered a lot and economy of the province had been ruined after those floods.

Shah said the floods were unprecedented and government had initiated rehabilitation and reconstruction of affected people and areas for which different countries had extended full support. There were increasing opportunities in energy sector of Sindh province, he added.

The chief minister said the Sindh government had been giving full attention to the maintenance of law and order in the province and concerted efforts were being made to curb activities of criminals and anti-state elements to attract foreign investment.

Munter said Pakistan possesses huge opportunities for foreign investment and investors had been keen to come in Pakistan for investment in various sectors.

There was a congenial atmosphere for furtherance of relations between Pakistan and the United States and those relations would further be strengthened, he pointed out. On the occasion, Sindh chief minister presented cultural items of Ajrak, Sindhi Cap and Khais to the US ambassador.
