On January 15, Veteran broadcaster Ishrat Fatima returned to Pakistan Television (PTV) as a mentor for aspiring newscasters, following an announcement by Information Minister Atta Tarar in Islamabad. The move comes shortly after Fatima’s retirement, which marked the end of her 45-year association with Radio Pakistan.

During a recent news bulletin on PTV, Fatima appeared alongside her former student and colleague, news anchor Zubair Ahmed Siddiqui. Siddiqui warmly welcomed her back, expressing pride and gratitude for the opportunity to work with his mentor and “big sister” once again. In response, Fatima thanked Siddiqui and acknowledged the affection and support from her fans.

Fatima’s return to PTV has been met with a positive reaction from viewers and media circles alike, many of whom recall her as the iconic voice of the 9 PM news bulletin that resonated in households across the country. The sentiment was echoed on social media, where fans shared nostalgic memories triggered by her familiar voice, and praised PTV for honoring its legendary anchor.

The official announcement of Fatima’s new role came from Information Minister Atta Tarar, who detailed her appointment during a media interaction at her residence in Islamabad. Tarar highlighted Fatima’s extensive experience and her commitment to professional integrity, noting her significant role in training new talent and promoting the Urdu language.
