LAHORE: Members of the provincial assembly (MPAs) kept on raising all issues under the sun other than those concerning womenfolk during the house proceeding on Friday as they ignored a motion on the problems of unmarried women aged over 30.

Shaikh Alauddin, Pakistan Muslim League-Q (PML-Q) forward bloc member, had tabled the motion to discuss the problems of unmarried women aged over 30. But most of the time reserved for adjournment motions was consumed by points of order raised by various members, both from the opposition and the treasury, who had their own issues to focus on.

When the Shaikh wanted to table the motion, PML-Q’s Khalid Asghar Ghuraal raised a point of order seeking a clarification of certain ‘Wajahat force’. The same party’s Chaudhry Sher Ali wanted the chair’s ruling on rules of procedure when quorum was pointed out in the house.

PML-N’s Mian Naseer wanted funds for repairing the Rescue 15 networking system damaged in a blast last year, while another treasury member criticised poor conditions in medical laboratories and read out an SMS his acquaintance had sent him on the issue.

In between Mr Alauddin tried in vain to table his motion and walked out on failing to get the floor or an assurance from the chair that the motion would be taken up on Monday.

Law Minister Rana Sanaullah and Mian Naseer brought back the MPA, but the chair adjourned the proceedings till Monday evening.

The only support the issue got was from Nighat Nasir, a PML-N MPA.
