A jirga in Upper Kohistan warned social media influencers against making “immoral comments” that could provoke confrontation about the creation of a new administrative unit in Hazara Division.

The jirga, comprising local elders, clerics and former local government officials from the district’s four tehsils, met in Dasu on September 9. Lawyer Raja Arif Sazeen said the jirga resolved to censure and impose fines on influencers found responsible for inciting discord through their content.

The jirga also said that there would be unity among the people of Upper Kohistan over the issue of increasing federating units in Hazara and elsewhere in the country. They decided that Jalkot residents would not participate in an upcoming jirga in Pattan, Lower Kohistan, on the future inclusion of Kohistan districts in Hazara province.
