The All Pakistan Newspaper Employees Confederation (APNEC) demanded the immediate restoration of government advertisements to Dawn, highlighting the severe financial difficulties faced by thousands of media workers due to the suspension. This call was made during a meeting held on April 30 at the Pakistan Herald Workers’ Union (PHWU) office in Karachi, chaired by APNEC Chairman Shakeel Yamin Kanga.

The meeting focused on the significant challenges affecting employees at Dawn and other media workers. Participants unanimously passed a resolution calling for the federal and provincial governments to resume advertising in Dawn immediately.

APNEC expressed full support for the PHWU General Secretary Kalbe Ali and emphasised the necessity for a united approach to overcome the challenges faced by media employees. The meeting also included contributions from various union leaders, including Karachi Union of Journalists (KUJ) President Tahir Hasan Khan, who stressed the importance of solidarity and collective action among journalists and media workers.

Prominent figures at the meeting included APNEC Vice Chairman Dara Zafar, Assistant Secretary General Rana Yousuf, and other key office-bearers.

The statement from the meeting highlighted continued efforts to ensure that these issues are resolved through coordinated and united efforts across the media sector.
