On September 27, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi directed the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) to intensify operations against cybercrime, particularly online financial fraud, harassment and digital blackmail.

During a visit to the NCCIA Central Zone Headquarters in Lahore, Naqvi inspected the complaints cell, forensic laboratory and investigation wing and reviewed the process from complaint registration to action against suspects. He chaired a high-level meeting where he ordered a crackdown on organised groups involved in online fraud, fake accounts and digital extortion.

Naqvi directed officials to strengthen the immediate response mechanism for financial fraud complaints to facilitate coordination with relevant institutions, help secure victims’ funds and improve suspect tracing. He also called for a review of pending cases, the use of advanced digital forensic tools and specialised training for investigation officers.

He further directed the NCCIA to prioritise complaints involving online harassment, blackmail and the digital exploitation of women and children, while strengthening public awareness about emerging online fraud techniques. The NCCIA director general briefed the minister on the Central Zone’s performance, ongoing investigations and trends in cyber fraud.
