On September 14, the investigation officer (IO) submitted a progress report to an anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Peshawar nominating Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Mohammad Sohail Afridi and four other Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders and an activist as accused in the May 2023 attack on Radio Pakistan Peshawar.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Khushal Khan, the investigation officer, informed ATC Judge Wali Mohammad Khan that the accused were identified through forensic analysis by the Punjab Forensic Science Agency (PFSA) and verification by the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA). A supplementary statement by the director of Radio Pakistan Peshawar also nominated the five individuals. The other accused are former provincial ministers Taimur Saleem Jhagra and Kamran Bangash, PTI Peshawar district president Irfan Saleem and activist Amir Khan Chamkani.

The court directed the prosecution to submit a supplementary charge sheet by September 28.

According to the investigation report, video and photographic evidence was forensically examined, while facial recognition was used to match the accused with footage from the scene.
