On June 20, in a notable development aimed at bolstering Pakistan’s cyber security capabilities, the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) and the University of Management and Technology (UMT) entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). The agreement, signed by NCCIA Director Muhammad Ali Waseem and UMT Dean Dr. Atif Alvi, focuses on enhancing research and academic collaboration in cyber security.

The partnership will see both institutions jointly working on research and development projects within the cyber security sphere and seeking both national and international research grants. This collaboration is part of a broader effort to promote innovation and technological advancements in the field.

A significant aspect of the MoU is the organisation of workshops, seminars, and knowledge-sharing sessions by the NCCIA for UMT faculty and students. These initiatives aim to raise awareness and develop expertise in emerging cyber security domains. Additionally, the NCCIA will provide mentorship and guidance for UMT’s final-year students’ projects, particularly in specialized areas like blockchain, cloud computing, and malware analysis, under its Tech 2.0 Initiative.

Moreover, NCCIA representatives will join the advisory board of UMT, contributing to the modernization of its academic curriculum to better align with the latest technological trends and cyber security needs.

Both institutions also plan to collaborate on public awareness campaigns using social media and other digital platforms. These campaigns will aim to educate the public about cyber threats, online safety, and responsible digital practices.
