The Pakistani American Press Association (PAPA) hosted a reception and dinner in Washington, D.C., for Pakistani journalists covering the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly, bringing together visiting journalists, US-based media professionals and members of the Pakistani-American community.
The gathering focused on changes in journalism driven by artificial intelligence (AI) and digital technologies, as well as global issues discussed at the UN General Assembly, including conflicts in the Middle East, the war in Ukraine and climate change.
PAPA President Khurram Shahzad and General Secretary Yousaf Chaudhry highlighted the importance of professional exchanges between journalists in Pakistan and the United States. Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) President Afzal Butt and senior journalists from both countries also attended.
Sajid Tarar, head of Muslims of America, announced plans to organise free AI training workshops and a certification programme for Pakistani journalists in collaboration with a US university. Participants also discussed misinformation, fact verification and journalistic ethics in the digital age.
