Press club elections and oath-taking ceremonies held in Wana, Dadu, and Landi Kotal

The annual elections of the District Press Club Wana and the Landi Kotal Press Club were held separately on December 27, while the newly elected body of the Dadu Press Club took oath at a ceremony.  The processes resulted in the selection of new office-bearers in accordance with the respective constitutions and election procedures of the three press clubs.

The annual elections of the District Press Club Wana, located in South Waziristan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, were conducted in accordance with the club’s constitution. The election process was supervised by an election committee headed by Chairman Adam Khan Wazir, with Roshan Khan serving as a committee member. Officials said the process was completed smoothly and in line with established rules and procedures.

According to the official results, Qismatullah Wazir was elected unopposed as president, Noor Ali Wazir as general secretary, and Mujeebur Rehman Wazir as finance secretary. Other office-bearers elected unopposed included Zafar Wazir as senior vice president, Zardad Khan Wazir as vice president, Roshan Khan Wazir as joint secretary, and Saeedur Rehman Wazir as press secretary.

Addressing journalists after the announcement of results, Qismatullah Wazir said his priority would be to strengthen the press club in Wana as an active and dignified institution. He said unity among journalists would remain central to the club’s progress, adding that all members would be involved in decision-making and that the press club would be kept free from political influence.

Separately, the oath-taking ceremony of the newly elected body of the Dadu Press Club for the 2026–27 term was held in Dadu, Sindh. Addressing the ceremony, Sardar Rafiq Ahmed Jamali, Sindh Deputy General Secretary of the Pakistan Peoples Party and a Member of the National Assembly, said journalists play an important role in democratic processes.

On the occasion, he announced that a solar system would be provided to the Dadu Press Club and that a journalists’ colony would soon be established in Dadu, similar to those in Karachi and Hyderabad. Senior journalist Samsafar Gadhi and Dadu Press Club president Nizam Sheikh also addressed the ceremony, stating that journalists in Dadu have consistently highlighted public issues and would continue to present people’s concerns before the government.

In a separate development, the annual election of the Landi Kotal Press Club for 2026 was also concluded in Landi Kotal, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Aman Ali Shinwari was elected president unopposed, while Hijrat Ali Afridi secured the post of general secretary after obtaining a majority of votes. His opponent, Jibran Shinwari, received nine votes.

The election process at Landi Kotal Press Club was conducted under the supervision of the Khyber District Bar. The election committee was headed by its president Abrar Afridi as chairman, with advocates Taj Mahal Afridi and Ahmad Ullah as members. Other office-bearers elected unopposed included Perviz Khan as vice president, Shahid Afridi as joint secretary, and Mian Sajid as finance secretary.

After the announcement of results, Aman Ali Shinwari thanked colleagues for their confidence and pledged to work for the welfare and professional development of journalists. Hijrat Ali Afridi formally announced the results and congratulated the newly elected office-bearers, urging them to use their platform to highlight issues faced by the general public.
