Prominent scholar and father of senior journalist Javaid-ur-Rehman passes away

On May 04, Professor Hafeez-ur-Rehman, a respected scholar, educationist, and father of senior journalist Javaid-ur-Rehman, died following a brief illness at the age of 85. The news was confirmed by his family, who said he was interred at a graveyard adjacent Jalal Baqri Masjid in Multan.

Professor Rehman leaves behind his wife, three sons, and a daughter. His son, Javaid-ur-Rehman, is known for his role as a senior parliamentary reporter at daily The Nation.

The passing of Professor Rehman has drawn condolences from various high-profile figures and institutions. Senate Chairman Yousuf Raza Gilani, National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, and Deputy Senate Chairman Syedal Khan Nasr, among others, have expressed their sorrow and extended condoled with his son.

In a statement, NA Speaker Sadiq, noted the invaluable role of parents, describing a father’s presence as great support and underscoring the irreparable loss felt by the family.

Furthermore, Federal Minister for Climate Change and Environmental Coordination, Dr. Musadik Masood Malik, also paid his respects, describing Professor Rehman as a man of integrity known for his dedication to education and knowledge. Dr. Malik emphasised the late professor’s intellectual contributions and dignified character would always be remembered with honour and respect. He extended his sympathies to the bereaved family and highlighted the personal tragedy of losing a father.
