KARACHI, June 06 2006: Women gathered outside the press club May 05 to protest against Union Council Nazim Mohammad Rafique and SHO Kalri. One of the protestors, Naseem, said her husband Nawab Khan had complained to the UC Nazim that a water pipeline had burst in their neighborhood. After he got permission, Khan started repairing the damaged pipeline. A few of the nazim’s relatives interfered and ordered that the repair work should stop, she said. A row arose and the Nazim was called to the scene, she added. After a heated argument, the Nazim and his relatives opened fire on these people, she said.

After admitting their men to hospital the women went to Kalri police station where the SHO refused to file an FIR against the Nazim and instead filed an FIR against them. The protestors said that it was not safe for them to return’ home as the Nazim’s armed men surrounded the area. They appealed to the administration of the city to suspend the Nazim and file an FIR against the culprits.
