On April 24, the Lahore High Court adjourned the hearing of petitions challenging the ongoing ban on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) after the Attorney General for Pakistan (AGP) failed to attend the proceedings.
A law officer representing the federal government informed the bench that the AGP was unable to appear due to his participation in a meeting of the Security Council of Pakistan in Islamabad. In response, a three-member bench led by Chief Justice Aalia Neelum adjourned the hearing for a date after May 10.
The petitions, including one filed by journalist Hafiz Shakir Mahmood through Advocate Azhar Siddique, call for the restoration of access to X, removal of the ban on VPNs, and improvement of internet services in the country.
Earlier, on April 8, the court had instructed the AGP to appear in person to clarify the government’s position on the matter.
