Local journalist fatally shot in Dera Allahyar, suspect arrested; motive not determined

On August 4, journalist Nazar Muhammad Kanrani was fatally shot in the Ladies Bazaar area of Dera Allahyar in Balochistan’s Jaffarabad district. According to police, the attack resulted in Kanrani’s immediate death at the scene, while his brother sustained injuries.

Police arrived at the site and shifted Kanrani’s body and his injured brother to the District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital. Authorities said the motive behind the attack has not yet been determined.

Law enforcement later arrested a suspect, identified only as Hafiz, who is currently in police custody as investigations continue. According to The News, sources said that the killing was over a land dispute.

Kanrani resided in Sohbatpur district. He was a senior reporter for a web-based news channel and served as vice president of the Awami Press Club Sohbatpur.
